Logging Practices
At Harold White Millworks, Inc. we like to call ourselves the biggest environmentalist of all. We believe the sustainability of our forest land is paramount to our companies’ success. Hardwood is the most beautiful natural resource we have. Luckily, this natural resource is also renewable. We strictly encourage selective harvesting to ensure an abundant supply of hardwoods for generations to come. We also are constantly enforcing the Best Management Practices provided by Kentucky’s Division of Forestry to help guide our loggers on the healthiest methods of timber harvesting. This also allows us to maintain healthy forest in the present all while preventing catastrophic wildfires. It is a misconception that we are logging our forest faster than they are growing, in fact it is quite the opposite. North Americas hardwood forest having been moving in a very positive rate. More hardwood trees are grown each year in the U.S than are harvested. HWL is a member of Appalachian Hardwood Manufactures Inc. which sole mission is to maintain the sustainability of Appalachian hardwood. We have satisfactory passed a third-party audit that validates our Appalachian products are legally and sustainably sourced with a growth-to-removal ratio of 1 to 2.45. We will end on this, Job 14:7 “At least there is hope for a tree: If it is cut down, it will sprout again, and its new shoots will not fail.”
